Russia: Macroeconomic Developments and Investment Opportunities

This session will present progress achieved by Russia over the last few years in resuming economic growth, improving macroeconomic indicators and developing its domestic capital market. Russia has recently regained its investment grade rating and is currently ranked 35th in the World Bank’s Doing Business rankings. This is opening up new opportunities for both domestic and foreign investors.
 
The panel will discuss:
- Russian macroeconomic indicators today and looking forward
- improvement in the investment climate and measures to strengthen it further
- Russian capital market development
- investment opportunities and priorities.

Chief Executive Officer, Hlebprom

Anton Gubkin is the Director General of Hlebprom, the leading cake manufacturer in Russia. He has been with Hlebprom since 2007. Prior to that, he held senior positions in finance with Enforta, Sibur, Tele2, Beeline and PwC.  He is a graduate of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and obtained his Chartered Certified Accountant qualification (FCCA) in 1999.

 

Igor Kustarin

Director, Development of Regions and Investment Climate, Agency for Strategic Initiatives

In 2004-2012, Igor Kustarin worked at various positions with Roland Berger Strategy Consultants (Moscow and Munich). In 2012, Mr. Kustarin moved to the Boston Consulting Group (Moscow) where he stayed as Director until 2016. In his more than a decade of international strategic consulting experience, Mr. Kustarin was engaged in projects for both public and private sectors strategic development, operational improvement programs development, as well as mergers and acquisitions and post-merger integration. Mr. Kustarin specifically worked with hi-tech and telecom sectors, and implementation of major public national initiatives. In 2017, Igor Kustarin joined Russia’s Agency for Strategic Initiatives as Regional Development Director, having taken charge (among other things) of the National Investment Climate Index.

Maxim Lapin

Chief Financial Officer, Moscow Exchange

MaŃ… Lapin obtained a summa cum laude masters degree in financial economics from the Moscow State University, and graduated within top 3% of the MBA’07 class from the Columbia Business School, majoring in corporate finance. He is a dedicated follower of the beyond budgeting management philosophy, applied mathematics, econometrics, big data and digital marketing.

Before joining Moscow Exchange Max Lapin was a member of the Management Board and a Business Development Director at MMK. Before MMK he was in charge of Planning and Analysis at Sibur. Previously, Max worked with the Moscow office of McKinsey & Company where he focused on strategy and operational efficiency in the industrial and banking sectors.

Max Lapin was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer and the Member of the Executive Board of Moscow Exchange in 2017.

Denis Morozov

Executive Director, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

In 2011, Denis Morozov was appointed to represent Russia, Belarus and Tajikistan at the EBRD in London, where he is a Board member and Executive Director. Previously, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Uralkali. In 1999, Morozov joined Norilsk Nickel, Russia's largest metals and mining company, holding several executive positions and responsible for large restructuring projects before becoming President and Chief Executive Officer. From 1992-99, he worked for Ingosstrakh, Alfa-Bank and the International Financial Company.

He has a BA in Economics, a JD from Moscow State University, an MA in Public Administration from Columbia University and a PhD in Economics from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations. Morozov also completed an Advanced Management Programme at the Harvard Business School.
